Building site waste like bricks, concrete, sand and soil all have secondary value after their primary use. Many of these materials can be recycled in a variety of different ways like as road base, new concrete products, rubblisation and in gardens.
The main hurdle many people come across in recycling these materials is lack of access to the necessary vehicles – such as a truck or a ute – as they usually are very bulky. Labour is another big factor. People often simply don’t have the time or resources to get rid of large quantities of heavy waste.
That’s where we come in. Sydney Rubbish Services have over a decade of experience in recycling bulky junk like brick, soil and concrete. We have all the tools to get the job done, and a team of professionals who will get it done right. Here’s a look at why you need a rubbish removal service.
Do you have building waste such as bricks, concrete, sand or soil that you need to get rid of? Don’t let it pile up or fuss around with skip bins, give Sydney Rubbish Services a call.
Bricks and Concrete
Bricks and concrete have huge recycling value but are all too often discarded for worthless junk. Both materials are extremely heavy per cubic metre (roughly 1900kg and 2400kg respectively) and take up heaps of room, so discarding of them is tricky business.
Despite their prevalence, skips bins are rarely the best option for brick and concrete removal, especially if large quantities are involved. Skip bins take up a lot of space, which can be a huge concern in dense areas like the inner west, CBD and lower north shore of Sydney. They also have a relatively small capacity, which is troublesome when you’re dealing with bulky materials like these.
Skip bin hire and pickup is expensive and they fill up quickly, meaning the removal cost can get out of hand quickly. It is much cheaper to have a rubbish removal service on hand to quickly take your junk away. Our trucks can also take a much bigger load than any skip bin could meaning we can take more away in a single trip. The bigger the load for us, the lower the cost for you!
Sand and Soil
Sand and soil also pose a few issues when thinking about removal, particularly if they are contaminated.
Sand and soil can become tainted by a number of natural or man-made elements, such as pesticides, asbestos, oil, fuel, dirty water and chemical waste like acid sulphate and petroleum hydrocarbon.
Contaminated soil removal can be very tricky (and quite dangerous) if you don’t know what you’re doing. It is always best to get a professional in to do the job.
This process must also be speedy. Contaminated sand or soil is a hazard and can have a lot of negative impacts on the surrounding environment both natural and built.
Types of soil we remove:
• Sandy: Sandy soil is dry and gritty, with large particles. It is lighter than other soil types because it doesn’t hold water well.
• Silty: Silty soil has smaller particles and is smooth to touch. The smaller particles retain water better than sandy soil types and therefore it can be quite a bit heavier to remove.
• Clay: Clay soil has even smaller particles which stores water much more efficiently, therefore it can be quite a lot heavier than other soil types.
• Peaty: Peaty soil is dark brown or black in colour and tends to hold water quite well, creating a dense material. Though in warm conditions it can become very dry (this can be a fire hazard – yet another reason why dry, unused peat should be removed right away).
Recycling Building Site Waste
Sydney Rubbish Services specialise in waste assessment and sustainable rubbish disposal where we separate and categorise waste on building sites, assessing where best to dispose of it. Hiring a service who is eco-conscious is the best thing you can do to contribute to minimising unnecessary waste – you can count on us.
Skips bins are rarely the best answers for removing building site waste. Skips make it extremely hard to separate materials sustainably when everything is thrown into one place and taken to a landfill. This can have dire repercussions for landfill and the environment.
Skip bins take up a lot of room too, and in construction sites where space is limited this can pose many problems with efficiency and management of waste. Much of the waste that comes from building sites are far too bulky to skips anyway, and it is far more expensive to clean out a skip than to remove the rubbish with a rubbish removal service.
Dangerous items like plasterboard (which contain harmful carcinogens) are far too risky to be sitting in a skip bin – quick and efficient rubbish removal is your best option.
